Back in May of this year Officer Steve Martinez of the Chicago Police Department visited the Chicago Ridge Animal Welfare League four times before picking up Pantera, a Black Labrador.

Pantera was given up by the owners because their landlord banned dogs and is now the youngest certified narcotics detection canine in Chicago Police history according to the Chicago Tribune.
I think it is very cool the Chicago Police department is saving money & saving dogs. I hope to see more of this from Chicago and other cities. I wonder if San Diego has ever considered rescue dogs for police dogs; we have a lot of them.
